Abstraсt

The article describes the results and achievements of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History (ILLH) of the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences over the last decade. The complex character of this oldest in the Republic of Karelia academic institution of humanitarian profile is shown, its history is briefly outlined. Traditional and innovative approaches proposed by contemporary researchers are outlined, the main problems and topics of works on the whole range of scientific disciplines represented at the Institute are outlined. Attention is drawn to the new directions that have taken shape at the ILLH in recent years. In the historical direction, this includes the study of ancient technologies, the study of the history of everyday life, ethnologists’ consideration of such aspects as dendromythology, necroculture, mobile practices of Karelians etc. The Institute’s philologists conduct successful research in the field of corpus linguistics (Vepian and Karelian language corpuses). The scientific school of Baltic-Finnish linguistics has been developed, and scientific traditions of research into the folklore of the peoples of Karelia, the literature of the European North of Russia and the history of Russian-Finnish literary ties are maintained. The article draws the readers’ attention to various scientific products of the Institute — generalizing works, monographs, collections of materials and articles, as well as dictionaries and electronic resources. Modern research at the Institute is based on the experience of predecessors, as well as on extensive collections of archaeological objects, audio and video recordings, and manuscript funds of the Archive of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, created by many generations of scientists of Karelia. The contribution of the Institute to the study of languages, history and culture of Karelia and the development of Russian science in general is shown.
