Abstraсt

Before the 80th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Kursk, the generalization of the experience of logistical support for the troops of the Central Front on the eve and during the Battle of Kursk becomes the most relevant. The rear structures of the front fully provided the troops with the necessary material and technical equipment both in the preparatory period and in the course of defensive and offensive operations on the northern face of the Kursk Bulge. The logistical support of the troops was accompanied with the solution of a number of problems. One of them was the labor shortage for construction and restoration work in the defense zone of the Central Front. In order to meet the needs for labor resources, it was decided to mobilize the local population for defense construction work: construction, restoration and maintenance of defensive lines, roads, railways, bridges and other destroyed infrastructure. Special attention was also paid to the collection of captured weapons, property and scrap metal, in which local residents of different ages, including children, who had valuable information about the location of the property left by the enemy, were directly involved. Measures to attract the local population to help the rear services of the Central Front were extremely important for the organization of the full functioning of both individual rear units and the rear as a whole. In the absence of the necessary volume of labor resources and due to the untimely arrival of rear units at a new location in the Kursk Bulge area, at the initial stage of preparation, it was the forces of the local population, as far as possible, that provided logistical support of troops of the Central Front.
