Abstraсt

The most important direction of the state agrarian policy of the 1920s was a course called “Face to the Village”. Its implementation implied cultural and economic transformations in the village, including the creation of a special peasant press. The rural correspondents’ movement, which not only regularly provided materials to newspapers and magazines, but also actively participated in social transformations in the countryside, played one of the key roles in that process. Revealing various shortcomings and being a kind of official policy guides among fellow villagers, rural correspondents often became targets of attacks. One of such episodes of village everyday life, which caused the most significant social and political resonance with the participation of both regional and central authorities, is considered in the documentary collection given below on the example of the Mari Autonomous Region.
