Abstraсt

One of the important directions in Russian humanitarian sciences is the study of a personality as a subject of culture in the context of the role and place of personality in a certain era. The role and scale of S. B. Bakhmustov’s personality is measured by the “great time” of culture. Sergey Borisovich is a name, and the sacred meaning of “onomatodoxy” is associated with how a person realized himself in the world, how the cultural and historical context entered into the person who restored and created history. He belonged to the intellectual elite of Saransk, who actively advocated for the study and preservation of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Mordovia in its diverse manifestations, who saw a powerful potential for further development in this. The uniqueness of S. B. Bakhmustov’s phenomenon rests on his rationalistic and proven way to define existence “here and now”, which allowed him to become during his lifetime not only a brilliant journalist, but also a theorist who revealed a multifaceted field of local history to the reader and viewer. He was the “discoverer” of many research topics and at the same time did not simply identify the problem or approach it “in a first approximation”, but tried to study it as deeply as possible. His texts are distinguished by great information content, a desire for factual accuracy, constructive presentation of material, clarity of thought, journalistic intonation. A brilliant lecturer, an expert on the history of Saransk and archives, a photographer, a designer-illustrator, a cartoonist — these numerous facets of Sergey Borisovich’s talent determined the significance of his creative mark in the history of Mordovia with coverage of issues of the history of Russian culture of the region, the interaction of the church and government, history of Saransk, everyday life of Mordovia. The authors of the article analyze the multifaceted activities of S. B. Bakhmustov (personality, historian, local historian, writer, journalist, teacher, graphic designer), presenting to a wide range of readers the memories of colleagues, friends and associates, reflections on what a modern mentor, researcher and patriot of Russian culture should be.
