Abstraсt

The activities of V. V. Konakov (1939 — 2019) in different historical and cultural periods of our country are analyzed in the article — from the 1940s to the 2010s, presenting to a wide range of readers the memories of his colleagues, thoughts on why it is important to remember the significant role of this statesman of the republic, scientist and teacher in the history of Mordovia at the turn of the XX — XXI centuries, the scale of his unique personality — a true intellectual and patriot of this country. It is shown that the life path of V. V. Konakov was not easy (with sharp turns, abrupt changes in places of work and official position, competence in various fields) and at the same time quite typical for his time. He had a rare destiny for a statesman — to become a symbol of an entire epoch in the history of the Republic of Mordovia, to determine its fate in the 1990s for subsequent years. V. V. Konakov also made a significant contribution to the development of the Mordovia State University as a center of science, education and culture.
