The place and role of Vladimir Vysotsky in the public consciousness of Samara

Kabytov P. S., Nikolaev S. V.

Abstract

Vladimir Vysotsky is an iconic figure of the national culture of the 1960s — 1970s. The bard, poet, theater and film actor left an indelible mark in memory of the people. The article deals with the analysis of the process to preserve the historical memory of V. S. Vysotsky and to popularize his creative heritage in Samara. Based on new interviews with the organizers and audience of Vladimir Vysotsky’s concerts in Kuibyshev in 1967, as well as participants in perpetuating the memory of the poet in Samara, an attempt is made in the article to reconstruct past events and determine the importance and significance of the memory of V. Vysotsky for the urban community. In their study, the authors used the materials of a personal conversation with the President of the Regional Public Fund “Vysotsky Center in Samara” M. G. Trifonov and the Vice-president of the fund A. N. Belov, and official documents from the collections of the Vysotsky Museum — telegrams of the Samara Department Store and the Union of Sports Societies of Kuibyshev. Tthe main directions in which the memory of V. Vysotsky is perpetuated (museum, toponymic and memorial aspects) are determined; the festival activities of the Vysotsky Center in Samara are characterized; the results of published sociological surveys are considered to clarify public reflection on the works of V. Vysotsky, as well as the results of authors’ survey among students of the Faculty of History of Samara University, conducted in 2022, are also used. It is concluded that considerable attention is currently paid to the perpetuation of the memory of Vladimir Vysotsky and in this regard, Samara is particularly indicative.
